Our Story

The Road to Each Other

Long before we knew each other, we were already on our way.

Before there was an us, there were two lives being fully lived. Love and heartbreak. Families and dreams. Joy, adventure and all the chapters in between. We didn't know it then, but all of it was leading us toward each other.

On September 16, 2022, our paths finally crossed.

Lisy had plans with a girlfriend who canceled and found herself sitting next to Sosh at Barcelona Wine Bar in RiNo. Sosh will tell you he noticed her the moment she walked in, in a summer dress and cowboy boots.

We started chatting, and what began as casual conversation soon became wine, charcuterie and hours of talking and laughing. Somewhere along the way, Sosh decided he wasn't quite ready for the night to end. Without telling Lisy, he bought two tickets to see David Nail at the Grizzly Rose, then casually asked if she liked country music.

She said yes.

So Barcelona turned into the Grizzly Rose, with country music, dancing and Sosh riding the mechanical bull. And before we said goodnight, we'd already made plans for brunch the next morning.

We met on a Friday. From that weekend on, we've been inseparable.

And Then, Madrid

Before we met, Sosh had already planned to spend part of that winter in Madrid, exploring the possibility of expanding his business there. But by the time he left, we'd gone from meeting on a Friday to being inseparable. An ocean between us simply wasn't going to work.

So Lisy joined Sosh in Madrid, not once, but twice that first winter. We walked for miles, wandered the neighborhoods, found little bars and restaurants we still talk about, and lingered over long meals. We fell in love with Madrid while falling even more deeply in love with each other.

Since then, wherever life has taken us, we've found a way to go together. And we've returned to Spain again and again, eventually bringing our families with us to share a place that had become such a special part of our story.

Where All Roads Led

Finding each other was only the beginning.

Since then, two lives and two families have come together to create our own modern family, making room for everything that came before while building something entirely our own.

Looking back now, none of the chapters that came before us feel separate from this one. They were part of the road that brought us here.

To a Friday night when our paths crossed at a place called Barcelona.

To each other.

And, fittingly, back to Madrid, a place that became part of our story almost as soon as we became part of each other's.

On September 16, 2027, exactly five years after we found each other, we'll return to Spain, surrounded by the people we love most, to get married.

In this lifetime, every road led us to each other. And in every lifetime that follows, we'll find our way to each other again.

Wedding Activities

For those beginning to make travel plans, here’s a look at what we have planned around the wedding. We’ll be arriving in Europe a little early ourselves, and will coordinate a group activity on Tuesday, come together for dinner Wednesday evening, and on Thursday, gather at Finca El Gasco as we say “I do” and celebrate into the night. For anyone still in Madrid Friday, we’ll share where we’re heading for a casual drink.

We’re also planning to stay in Europe for a bit after the wedding, spending time with family and friends and enjoying a little more of the trip together. Beyond that, we’ve filled the site with some of our favorite places to explore, eat and drink in Madrid, along with a few places we love beyond the city, so you can make the rest of the trip your own. We’ll continue adding details as plans come together, so check back as we get closer.

Travel Tips

Flying to Madrid

Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD)

Madrid’s main international airport is approximately 20–30 minutes from central Madrid by car, depending on traffic, with easy connections by taxi, rideshare and public transportation.

For guests traveling from Denver, United’s new nonstop service to Paris (CDG) offers a convenient route into Europe with an easy onward connection to Madrid. London, Frankfurt and Munich are also good connecting options, while several major U.S. hubs offer nonstop service directly to Madrid.

For those traveling from the U.S., we recommend arriving by Tuesday, September 14 to settle in, adjust to the time difference and enjoy Madrid before the festivities begin.

Where to Stay

Central Madrid

We recommend making central Madrid your home base for the celebration, with easy access to the city’s restaurants, neighborhoods and sights and plenty to explore on foot.

As a general guide, we recommend looking north or west of El Retiro Park and east of Plaza Mayor. This keeps you in a great central part of the city and within easy reach of everything planned for the weekend.

Some of our favorite areas include Salamanca and Las Letras, along with the neighborhoods surrounding El Retiro. There are plenty of options across this part of Madrid at a range of price points.

Prep for a Revved Up City

Formula 1 is Coming to Town

Start your engines. The Spanish Grand Prix takes over Madrid September 10–12, 2027, the weekend right before our wedding.

If you’re coming early, expect a livelier-than-usual Madrid and extra demand for flights and hotels.

Book early, and if you’re an F1 fan, you may have just found a very fun way to start the trip.

Getting Around Madrid

Madrid is one of those cities best discovered as you go. Walk when you can, take the Metro when you want to cover more ground, or grab a taxi when your feet have had enough.

The city’s public transportation makes it easy to get around, and Madrid’s trains make exploring beyond the city just as simple.

Whether you have somewhere in mind or just want to wander, getting from here to there is refreshingly easy.

A few of our Madrid favorites

Retiro Park

Stroll through Madrid’s most beautiful park, rent a rowboat on the lake, and stop by the Crystal Palace.

The Prado Museum

One of the world’s great art museums and home to masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco and more.

Royal Palace of Madrid

Tour the palace and wander through the surrounding plazas and gardens.

Gran Vía

Madrid’s iconic boulevard for architecture, shopping, theaters and some of the best people-watching in the city.

Food spots we love

Mercado de San Miguel

Come hungry. Wander from stall to stall for jamón, cheeses, seafood, tapas and a glass of wine or vermouth inside one of Madrid’s most beautiful historic markets.

La Latina Neighborhood

Wander from tapas bar to tapas bar through one of Madrid’s liveliest neighborhoods.

La Venencia

Step into old Madrid at this legendary sherry bar once frequented by Ernest Hemingway. Order a glass straight from the barrel, grab a few simple tapas and put your phone away. Photos are famously discouraged here.

Casa Lucio

An iconic Madrid institution in the heart of La Latina. Go for the famous huevos rotos, stay for the old-school atmosphere and a taste of classic Madrid.

Easy from Madrid

TOLEDO

There’s something almost unreal about Toledo. Perched high above the Tagus River, its ancient walls, winding stone streets and magnificent cathedral hold centuries of history around every corner. We loved wandering without much of a plan, discovering hidden plazas, incredible views and layers of Christian, Jewish and Muslim history along the way. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave.

About 35 minutes from Madrid by train

VALENCIA

Long walks along the Mediterranean, wandering through the city, a little shopping and paella under the stars made Valencia one of our favorite stops. We loved the mix of old and new, the beautiful architecture and the way the city seems to move at its own pace. Give yourself time to explore, linger by the water and let Valencia surprise you.

About 2 hours from Madrid by train

TORRELODONES

Tucked into the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama, Torrelodones feels a world away from Madrid while still being just outside the city. There are trails to wander, beautiful views, little restaurants to discover and a quieter rhythm that makes you want to slow down. And, of course, it’s home to Finca El Gasco, the place we chose to say “I do.” That alone makes this little corner of Spain forever special to us.

About 30 minutes from central Madrid by car

SEVILLE

Seville has a romance all its own. Orange trees, tiled courtyards, beautiful old streets, flamenco and dinners that stretch late into the night give the city an energy you feel almost immediately. We loved simply wandering and letting the city unfold around us. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay out a little later and linger a little longer.

About 2½–3 hours from Madrid by train

A Little Further

If you’re making a little more of your time in Europe, there’s plenty within easy reach. From the coast of Portugal to the south of Spain and even Oktoberfest in Munich, a few extra days can take you somewhere completely different.
Keep exploring.

LISBON

Lisbon has been on our list for a while, and this trip might just be the perfect excuse to finally get there. Colorful tiled buildings, winding streets, rooftop views, incredible food and wine, and the Atlantic just beyond the city. We’re already imagining wandering through Alfama, finding a table somewhere for a long lunch and making our way to Sintra for the day. If you’re looking to add another stop to your trip, maybe we’ll see you there.

About 1 hour 20 minutes from Madrid by plane

PARIS

Our Paris adventure was a straight-up 24 hours. Lisy’s flight from Denver got grounded in Newark for an entire day and night, wiping out the two days we’d planned in Madrid before heading to Paris. Her luggage, meanwhile, decided to take a four-day trip of its own. So Lisy arrived in Paris still wearing the same travel outfit she’d left Denver in, which, if you know Lisy, tells you just how determined we were to make Paris happen.

We ate, drank, wandered and packed as much of the city as we possibly could into one very full day. Exhausted? Absolutely. Worth it? Completely. If you’re thinking about adding another stop while you’re already in Europe, Paris gets our vote. Just maybe pack a change of clothes in your carry-on.

About 2 hours from Madrid by plane

MUNICH

We hear Oktoberfest is already making its way onto more than a few of your lists, and the timing is pretty perfect. Munich also happens to be one of Lisy’s favorite places to connect on the way to and from Madrid, so turning a layover into a few days in Bavaria doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

Tents, music, Bavarian food, traditional dress and, thankfully for Lisy, even a wine tent. If Oktoberfest has always been on your list, this might be the year
